April 12 2009
Today we all met up at Kat and Johnny’s house for our first meeting this year to celebrate Ostara. We had arranged quite a number of activities for the children. Present were 4 children, 5 adults and 1 dog.
We started off with the child’s invocation from the Book of Blotar/AH website. The first fun activity was an Ostara treasure hunt with rhymes and clues for them to figure out resulting in a present from the Ostara bunny.
We then proceeded into the kitchen to make chocolate nests using rice crackles, 4 bars of milk chocolate and topped off with cherries and mini eggs. The children thoroughly enjoyed this and were covered in chocolate!
Our next activity was to paint some chocolate scented candles the finished results were spectacular! Next we moved onto the work book that I had prepared using the AH website, internet source materials and a local workbook found from in a tourist info centre. This was prepared with the ages of the kids in mind, so had something for everyone in it. They decorated their front covers beautifully using feathers, ribbons and lots of other fab things. At the same time as this Haydn the youngest member of the group helped to fill a bucket with soil and planted some wild flower seeds in it and gave it a good watering, to make a living Ostara basket. John then spread the remaining seeds across the back pathway behind the house to grow under the hedge.
We then had an egg hunt in the gardens surrounding the house which was lots of fun, resulting in lots of yummy treats. Next we all jumped into the cars and headed to a hill a couple of miles away to roll our eggs. Haydn’s egg went the furthest down the hill, Blake’s split open halfway down (eggstremely funny!!) and Chloe and Ellie’s both landed in the bushes, this was a really funny activity we all had a great time! We had a look at the spectacular view over the Lake District and Lancaster whilst the children had a run about. We formed a circle and John performed a short blot of thanks.
We headed back to our house where we then produced the mead horn with non alcoholic juice in it for the kids to hail Ostara. We all had a cup of tea and a chat then said our goodbyes to one another. This was a fantastic fun filled day for everyone.
Thank you to all who attended,
FFF
